A practicum is a course of study for a particular set of people which is designed to give them supervised practical application of a previously or concurrently studied theory. They make use of the knowledge and skills they have learned or are learning.

The African school on internet governance (AfriSIG) also includes this practical hands-on component. It runs throughout the duration of the school and culminates in a mock international multistakeholder meeting which has to take a decision related to the practicum topic of that particular year.

For this AfriSIG 2016, the practicum topic was “internet shutdowns” and this led to the production of a statement which is available here.
